Lafayette Coffee & Eatery — Bright Lights in Kayutangan, but... Lafayette is one of the most eye catching cafés in the Kayutangan Heritage area of Malang. The building looks grand, and its chandeliers shine brightly at night, maybe too brightly. Instead of creating a warm and elegant atmosphere, it feels glaring and wasteful. It’s not energy efficient, and certainly not environmentally friendly. When it comes to food and drinks, everything is okay. The flavors are decent, but nothing really stands out. For those who love sweet treats, there are many dessert options, but be ready, the prices are quite high for what you get. Service? Unfortunately, this is the weak point. On several visits, the waitresses and cashiers felt like uniformed robots. They were not friendly, and their service lacked any real warmth. Maybe they were tired or under pressure, but as a guest, you can feel the cold vibe. The café has a lot of space, with several floors and a rooftop area. But one thing that feels odd, the sound system often plays murottal (Quranic recitation). It’s a strange choice for a coffee shop. Is it meant to keep bad spirits away? Still, one thing deserves full praise: the prayer room (musholla). Among all the cafés I’ve visited, this is the best musholla I’ve ever seen, clean, spacious, tidy, and truly comfortable. It's rare to find a place that takes worship facilities seriously like this. Big respect for that.

Lafayette Cake n Coffee Malang is a lovely spot for both dessert lovers and coffee enthusiasts. I tried their cakes and coffee, all were fresh and beautifully presented. Service was friendly and fast, and the place is clean and prices are reasonable for the quality and ambiance you get. Overall, Lafayette Cake n Coffee is highly recommended

Amazing café! Very kind personal and excellent and cheap food. You can choose from many types of cakes and sweet treats as well as from salty snacks. It is good for breakfast, brunch and even for lunch/dinner.

This café presents itself with a semi formal dress code, though it’s loosely enforced, as casual attire was accepted without issue. The pricing is reasonable, and the selection of pastries is impressively varied—perfect for pairing with coffee. However, the location on a busy road makes parking a challenge, and ride-hailing drop-offs can be inconvenient due to frequent traffic and long queues.

The menu here is outstanding, offering a wide variety of both Asian and Western dishes. I decided to try something Mediterranean, specifically the Turkish Meat Pizza, and it was a revelation. The thin, slightly crisp dough combined with perfectly seasoned meat created a rich and savory experience. The subtle spices balanced with the freshness of the toppings made every bite extraordinary. It was easily one of the best pizzas I’ve ever tasted, and it left a lasting impression. Beyond the food, the café provides thoughtful facilities that make every visit comfortable and convenient. There is a dedicated family room, a prayer room (musholla), and even separate restrooms for men and women, which shows attention to detail. The seating itself is remarkably comfortable, with cushioned chairs that encourage guests to linger. I found myself spending hours there without even realizing how quickly time had passed. It felt like the perfect place to both relax and recharge. The highlight, however, is undoubtedly the rooftop area. From here, guests are treated to a beautiful panorama overlooking the famous Kayutangan intersection, one of Malang’s most iconic spots. Whether during the golden hours of sunset or under the evening lights, this view creates an atmosphere that is both vibrant and unforgettable. The combination of fresh air, cozy seating, and a bustling cityscape makes the rooftop truly special. It’s the kind of place where one could enjoy a long conversation or a quiet moment with equal satisfaction. Overall, Lafayette Coffee & Eatery feels more like a halal lounge than just a café. It combines excellent food, comfortable spaces, and stunning views into one complete experience. For me, it perfectly represents the hospitality and charm of Malang. I would confidently recommend it to both locals and fellow travelers seeking something special. On my personal scale, I would rate it a solid 9.2 out of 10.

Ordered Flat White and Apple pie from Lafayette coffee yesterday. I asked Barista to put in different cup with milk a bit hotter. Double shot. Coffee was made very well. Coffee was strong taste. Texture of milk was good. Apple pie was very fresh and nice taste. Nice Eatery with big selection. Lots of them are sweet but their are savoury options. Plenty of seating. Very clean premises. Well worth a visit.
